This has to be one of the more incredible true crime oddities ever seen, bar none, within the genre. These are indeed the very sneakers that Aileen Wuornos was arrested in, at the Last Resort Bar in Orange, Florida.
Wuornos signed each shoe, "Shoes Busted in 1-9-91" and Signed on opposite side of each shoe. While her signatures and dating are impressive, it is a well known fact that the shoes alone are important. Wuornos was living day to day back in 1991 and from all accounts, she committed several crimes in these sneakers - and possibly even murder!
What is rare is that the sneakers made it back to Wuornos who then sent them to her childhood friend, Dawn Botkins. Botkins then sold them to us several years ago. They have been encased ever since and will remain so until sold.
These shoes are now 32 years in age yet the ink remains very much intact. As to the date Wuornos signed them, likely right before her execution - which again is rare. Most inmate items are disposed of after a certain amount of time, often in a pyre, but much of Aileen's personal effects were saved, put in a box or two and mailed to Botkins after execution.
These sneakers are in a few articles, there is some old arrest footage of Wuornos but her feet are not visible during this footage. It was an undercover sting operation so they were more concerned about arresting her than filming her head to toe.
This may be the single most spectacular piece of true crime on the market. Surely evidence pieces exist, even cars, trucks or vans that were used - but rarely the very shoes that a serial killer was wearing, without question, at the time of arrest. Beyond that, clearly signed by Wuornos in her well-known scawl.
100% authentic. Will come with COA from Botkins as well.
