Aileen Wuornos only created about 25 drawings while incarcerated according to Dawn Botkins. The number of surviving pieces might be far fewer as we have never one come to market. We had over half of the 25 created at one time and now possess the largest number in existence. This is a rare one!
This was created from a single piece from ink pen. Here we see the unusual aspect of red coloring which was rare for Wuornos in her drawings.
Wuornos' style is evidence if you look at the Bible also for sale. Aileen would tend to black out the white - the rationale being she enjoyed the evening. She would spend hundreds of hours, slowly turning the white piece of paper dark - often so heavy with ink, plastic supports are needed to hold them up at all 4 corners. This is no exception as you can see the weight from the pictures alone - very laden with think ink pen. Her initials appear lower right, "A.W."
We do believe this contained her signature on the verso as well but its frail nature coupled with the $550 framing, it is best left alone. This could hang in a museum, living room or den. Nobody would know what it is but they can appreciate the intracies of how it was created.
How was it obtained?
Purchased from Dawn Botkins directly, Aileen's high school friend and long time confidant. Botkins actually dispersed Wuornos' remains in her own backyard and was the source of information for the movie "Monster."
